THE KEEL is of composite construction with most of its weight concentrated in the bulb. With the keel fully extended, the boat has excellent stability, with righting moment staying positive through 130 degrees. This compares favorably with most bluewater passagemakers. Even at mid-draft positions, the boat remains stiff and weatherly LIFTING MECHANISM The keel is moved vertically by an electric stainless winch mounted at the top of the trunk and activated by remote switch. The winch is rated at 2,000 lbs capacity, but with the three-to-one mechanical advantage, is never required to lift more than 700 lbs. Cable is 3/8th inch stainless. 1 3/8th inch stainless rod secures the keel in its static positions. In the event of winch or power failure, the keel can be raised to its position of shallowest draft using the mainsheet assembly. MAST STEPPING and unstepping is accomplished easily using the upper keel arm as a gin pole. KICK UP RUDDER is NACA foil. |
